Oneil Ricardo Thomas aka Foota Hype the Dancehall selector has chosen to remain in custody, in Florida at the Krome Service Processing Centre in the US, instead of returning to Jamaica his homeland.

A source revealed to the JAMAICA STAR that “He has no status at this time in terms of a document that allows him entry to the US, he could return to Jamaica at any time, but he prefers to stay and put his case before the court.”

After he appeared before an immigration judge on December 19, the court had dismissed the matter, his lawyers had asked for more time to resolve the overall immigration concerns.

These concerns arose after the Selector’s marriage to an American woman was dissolved before he was issued permanent resident status in the US, and his papers, which would allow him temporary entry in the country, expired.

“He got married and applied for his green card; but before his green card status was finalized, he got divorced,” the source revealed and also added that Foota feels that his green card will come through soon.

A green card, which is known officially as a permanent resident card, is a document issued to immigrants under the Immigration and Nationality Act, is evidence that its holder has been granted permission to reside permanently in the US.

Thomas, who was a selector on the recent Welcome to Jamrock Cruise, before he was held on Saturday, December 14, when he embarked at Port Everglades Seaport from the Independence of the Seas after leaving the port in Falmouth, Jamaica.

Foota was held by ICE, US Immigration and Customs Enforcement and spent Christmas in Krome Service Processing Centre.

He is scheduled to appear before the judge again on the 20th of January.

Dancehall Veteran Foota Hype Held By US Immigration ICE In Miami: Reports

Popular dancehall selector, Foota Hype, is currently in custody in the United States over some immigrant issues.

Foota Hype, whose real name is Oneil Thomas, was detained by the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) at the Port Everglades Seaport in Fort Lauderdale, Florida on December 14. The dancehall spokesman arrived at the port on the Independence of the Seas cruise ship via Falmouth, Jamaica. Reports are that ICE requested to review his travel documents and eligibility to be admitted into the country. He is set to appear in court today, December 23, to hear more about the case.

While fans have been speculating that Foota Hype was arrested for having his foot in his mouth (no pun intended) and offending the LGBTQ community, some reports suggest that the Jamaican DJ’s status changed when he and his wife got divorced this year and his green card is no longer valid. These reports were not confirmed, leading up to Foota’s court appearance on Monday. However, it is a fact that the popular selector and his wife got divorced in June.

When news first broke that the dancehall selector was being held by ICE, most people took the news lightly while others did not even bother to chime in. Even though Foota has been in custody for over a week, it wasn’t until this weekend that we finally saw some support from other dancehall celebrities.

Popular dancehall producer Rvssian who is also based in the United States was one of the first to share a message regarding the unfortunate situation. “#FreeFootaHype no wish jail pon nuh man,” Rvssian wrote. Spice also shared a picture of the DJ to Instagram with a series of blue hearts in the caption, and I-Octane did the same writing “Prayers up bro #Freedom,” with the prayer hands emoji.

New reports are that the case against Foota Hype has been dismissed. However, the DJ is still in custody pending immigration lawyers’ final review and sorting of the overall case.

Dancehall selector Foota Hype has gone missing in action for the past five days, and his fans are worried that he has been captured by the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency.

Foota Hype, who has declared himself the global Viral King, and who makes daily Instagram posts whether via live feed, regular posts, or on his IG stories, has not made a post for the last five days. His last post was on Saturday, which pictured him aboard the Welcome to Jamrock Reggae Cruise, clad in monochromatic black with the caption “Doreen son @welcometojamrockreggaecruise F.H.M.”

“Hopefully Foota get bail,” one woman posted in the comments section on Foota’s last post, while one fan wrote: “Free Foota.”

Some concerned persons also queried whether all was well with the entertainer, who had been uncharacteristically quiet. “Homie Is everything good with you cuz yuh nevah quiet suh,” one follower asked.

Another follower though, openly declared: “ICE still have him,” fueling further speculations that the selector was indeed in the custody of the immigration organization, which was created in 2003 through a merger of the investigative and interior enforcement elements of the former U.S. Customs Service and the Immigration and Naturalization Service.

ICE is responsible for immigration enforcement, combating transnational crime, and preventing terrorism. The organization has more than 20,000 law enforcement and support personnel in more than 400 offices in the United States and across the world.

According to ICE’s website, the organization’s mission is to protect the United States from the cross-border crime and illegal immigration that threaten the country’s national security and public safety. This, it says, is undertaken through the enforcement of more than 400 federal statutes and a focus on smart immigration enforcement, preventing terrorism and combating the illegal movement of people and goods.

Among the reasons given as to why a person can be detained by ICE are: if the detainee has committed a crime or multiple crimes; arrived at the border without a visa prior to formally applying for asylum or refugee status; has a deportation order on record, either pending or past due, or missed prior immigration hearing dates.

If Foota has indeed been captured by ICE, he joins a long list of Jamaicans who have been detained by the agency this year.

Some followers have not been very tactful in their remarks and found news of the likely detention of the entertainer amusing.

“Him beta mek sure the news fake…cause a wah day mi hear him a tell Kartel him better shut up cause him kno weh him deh” one woman said, while one young man jeered: “Hope yuh nuh drop the soap brogad ….bless up”.
