Olivia Babsy Grange backs Vybz Kartel after criticisms from Education Minister

Just weeks after Education Minister, the Honourable Ronald Thwaites criticised convicted entertainers being nominated for awards, Opposition Minister of Information, Olivia Babsy Grange is in support of Vybz Kartel getting accolades.

Last week, Minister Thwaites said awarding incarcerated entertainers sends the wrong message to the youths in our country.

Miss Grange however, says Kartel is paying his penalties. She adds that while there are negatives, Vybz Kartel is a creative and talented individual that should be acknowledged. Minister Grange also said Kartel’s achievements may send a positive message to youths that despite their downfalls they can rise and contribute positively to society.  

Vybz Kartel’s sons Little Vybz and Little Addi took home four of five YVAs on behalf of their dad on February 21.

Kartel is currently serving a life sentence at hard labour for murder.
